Barbara Abplanalp Jacobsen peacefully passed from this life to join her husband, family members and others August 31st, 2007 from causes incident to age surrounded by her family. Barbara entered this life as a Christmas baby to Hannah and Joseph Abplanalp as the youngest of 15 children. Barbara married her eternal companion, Alvin Maxwell Jacobsen, September 27, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of three daughters and two sons, Claudia (Ed) Wyckoff, Dale (Pat) Jacobsen, Ann (Boyd) Hansen, Cathy (Greg) Rogers, and David (Sandra) Jacobsen; 20 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. Her life was spent in pursuit of knowledge. One of her greatest joys was earning a college degree. When she graduated from the University of Utah, being the first in her family, she earned a degree in Elementary Education. Barbara taught school at Holladay Elementary teaching the majority of her 20 years, in the second grade, believing that every child should know how to read. She was an avid reader, enjoyed travel and loved spending time with her family. She spent many hours in community theater and supported the arts. Since she was a Christmas baby she was a lover of Christmas and spent all year long in preparation for that day. Barbara and Al served together as missionaries in the Copenhagen Denmark Mission. She served in many callings in the LDS Church and loved the Lord and had a fervent testimony of Him. We express our deep gratitude to Canyon Creek Assisted Living for the care and companionship that they freely gave to our mother. We thank Residence Care Source for becoming extended family as they cared for our mother and loved her as she went through this final transition. Barbara is survived by her children; and beloved sister, Tressie Crews. The Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday September 5, 2007 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 East 10600 South Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening at the mortuary from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Wednesday. Interment will be in Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
