Nathan "Duke" Ward, 87, of Marietta, GA, passed away Aug. 1, 2003. Funeral services with full military honors were conducted Aug. 3 at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, with Dr. Randy Mickler officiating. Interment followed at Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Ward was a retired United States Army Lt. Col. (Reserves) with 36 years of service, having served in World War II and the Battle of the Bulge, where he received the Bronze Star. He was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion "Silk Stocking Unit."
He was the building maintenance supervisor at Ft. McPherson for 29 and a half years.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Martha Ward; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Pam Ward of Highlands, NC; grandson, Lanier Ward of Highlands, NC; brothers, Lonnie Ward of Houston, TX and Dexter Ward of Crossville; and sisters, Trusta Adams of Crossville, Minerva Jones of Dayton, OH and Boots Pennington of Dayton, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Duke Ward Memorial Fund, c/o Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, 4385 Lower Roswell Rd., Marietta, GA 30068.
