Funeral services were held Monday for Gerrit Van Bruggen, Sr., from the home at 1:00 and from the Litchville Reformed Church at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. G. Wolbrink preaching the funeral sermon.

His favorite Dutch hymn was sung by the audience, as was the 116th psalm. Pallbearers were: Pete Verduin, St., Bert VanderBusch, Henry Ten Pas, Peter Van Dyke, Ernest Miedema and Jacob DeVries. Burial was in the LItchville cemetery.

The deceased has been in failing health for several months, being confined to his home here in recent months. Death took him from his home here Thursday afternoon. Medical science and tender loving care did everything possible for him but complications and old age were the deciding factors.

Gerrit Van Bruggen, Sr., was born in Kampen, Netherlands, June 27, 1872 reaching the age of 77 years at the time of his death, November 10, 1949.
In the year 1900 he was united in marriage to Henrietta Kamphoff to which union eight children were born. In 1906 he came with his family to the United States settling on a farm near Litchville. In 1915 he moved to the North Marion community where he farmed until his retirement in 1946. He then returned to Litchville and lived here until death took him.

A daughter, age four, preceded him in death in 1906, and an infant son in 1909. Two sisters and one brother also preceded him.

Mr. Van Bruggen was a charter member of the First Reformed Church of Litchville. During the years of his residence at North Marion he was a member of that Congregation. He served as an Elder in the Consistory and as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. His consecration to the work of the Church and his devotion to the Lord was an inspiration to all who knew him and worked with him.
