Jeremiah C. Allen was born 1 March 1863 in Haywood County, NC, the sixth of nine children of Jeremiah M. Allen (1828-1918) and Elizabeth Hyatt Allen (1829-1914). He was married Alice Elizabeth Fisher (1865-1932) about 1886. He worked as a farmer and a house carpenter. They had five sons. He died on 7 June 1938 in Waynesville, NC at the age of 75. He was interred at Green Hill Cemetery.

Jeremiah C. Allen, 75, known throughout the community as “Uncle Coot,” died at his home on Killian Street on Tuesday night, June 7, 1938 at 8:15. Funeral services will be held at the residence this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock. The Rev. Frank Leatherwood will officiate and burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Allen had been a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church for more than thirty years, and high respected in this section.
Surviving are three sons, Ed Allen of Salt Lake City, Utah, Bradford and Henry of Waynesville, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ernest Allen of Shell Creek, Tennessee; one granddaughter, Mary Alice Allen, six grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Mehaffey, and Mrs. Lillie Kelley, of Waynesville, and one brother, John H. Allen of Canton.
