James Dickson
Called "Whispering Jim" due to his soft voice.
This is a famous local nickname for him

Son of Thomas Dickson and Nancy McMillan, pioneers to Ashe Cty. NC.

Born ca 1776/77 in Wilkes Cty NC.

He resided in Ashe as a farmer.
His farm adjoined in 1850 Daniel Sr, Alfred and a Nancy Dickson (maybe widow of Eli).

In 1860, he was in the Town district of Jefferson with sons John, James and Douglas.

He and his wife started their life together with an iron pot and a spoon they say.
He acquired considerable property.
He owned 50 slaves at one time.

Buried here with son, John.

Died 1860.

The Family believes the empty space to the left of John Dickson may be his father James.
To John's right is his wife Sibila Colvard.

NOTES
In 1860 James had 13 Slaves.
They were not inherited.
7 were Mulatto.
His brother James ? had 1 and suspect that this person was part of the family with James.
James' 15 year old black girl is a fugitive along with a 2 month old mulatto baby belonging to James.
