A son of James I. and Esabelle Eaker Hickam, he married Elsa Dow Sept. 16, 1935 in Cairo, Illinois. He worked as a pipefitter, was a member of the National Rifle Association; former member of Cape County Gun Club and Cape County Sheriff's Association. From 1941 to 1945 he was employed by the Atomic Commission in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Survived by his wife; 2 sons; a daughter; brothers, henry and Lee Hickam; sisters, Mrs. Margaret Birk, Mrs. Helen Price, and Mrs. Jewell Lillie; and 4 grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter and a sister.
