Laverne Burow, age 98, of Valley City, ND, died Monday, November 29th at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Valley City.
Laverne Marie (Akers) Burow was born August 23, 1912, the daughter of Edwin and Laura (Waloch) Ackers, at rural Gwinner, ND. She attended school and attained her teaching certificate. She married Reinhold "Reinie" Burow July 8, 1932 at St. Vincent Parish at Stirum, ND. She worked at the North American Creamery, Jewel Café and Penny's in Oakes until she moved with her husband and family to Valley City, ND. She worked from that time until she retired on Oct, 1st, 1977 from JC Penny's. She returned to JC Penny's for some time on a semi-retired basis. She ran the girls department for many years. She volunteered at the Nearly-Nu store for many years. She was also a member of St. Catherine's Parish and a member of one of the women's circles. Laverne had many friends that she spent time with, she loved playing cards and was an avid walker.
She is survived by two daughters Donna Erickson, Milwaukee, WI, and Lynne Lang Valley City, ND; fifteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grand children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Cameron (Bev) Burow, Robert (Peg) Burow, Siblings Bernice Milkes, Lucille Buske, Merle (Bud) Akers, grandchildren, Steven Burow, Michael Haugen, and Timothy Martin.
