Grace Grable was the youngest child of Thomas Riley Grable and his wife Mary Elizabeth Rousey. Clara was born about 1890 near Geary City, Doniphan County, Kanasas. She along with her sister Clara died near Tonkawa, Oklahoma, when the family home burned. Their father, Thomas, had purchased a new furnace, when he acquired the home a short time before the accident, which they say was the cause of the fire. The children were awakened, but evidently were overcome by the smoke. Their father and cousin, Charles Grable (a young boy at the time) tried in vain to recue them. Thomas was on the upper story of the home, when the floor gave way throwing him through the window to the ground below. Charley suffered severe burns, which he carried the rest of his life. This was a terrible family tragedy.
