Sam was the son of Thomas W. and Elizabeth Hope (Fogle) Floyd and the husband of Katherine (Kate) Floyd.

THE LEBANON ENTERPRISE, Fri. Jan. 23, 1953. SAM P. FLOYD, SR., SUCCUMBS AT 81. Retired Farmer Dies Wednesday At Home Of Daughter.

Sam Porter Floyd, Sr. retired farmer, who celebrated his eighty-first birthday last Thursday, died Wednesday afternoon at 1:20 o'clock the home of his daughter Mrs. Lucille Ward, on the Old Calvary Road. He had been in his usual health until becoming ill early last week. He suffered a heart attack on Saturday and was in a criticl condition until the end came.

Born in this county on January 15, 872, a son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Fogle) Floyd, both deceased, he was a great-grandson of Thomas I. Fogle, first postmaster of Lebanon. For a number of years Mr. Floyd made his home at Penick, where he was a well known farmer. He also was served as a trustee in the Marion County school system. In 1917 he ought a farm on the Danville Highway, and making his home on High Street here, continued is operation until recently.

Wife Died in 1930.

His wife Mrs. Mary Catherine Violette Floyd preceded him to the grave in 1930. The past two years he had resided with Mrs. Ward, who survives. Also surviving are another daughter, Mrs. Roy Pope of Louisville; one son, Sam P. Floyd, Jr., sanitarian with the Marion County Health Department, and a sister, Mrs. Ida Floyd of this county. Another sister Mrs. Tom Edwards of Riley died several years ago. Four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren survive.

Funeral This Afternoon.

The remains are at the Bosley Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by the Rev. D. A. Payton of Bradfordsville. Burial will be in Ryder Cemetery.
