COLORADO SPRINGS, CO--Mable J. Nygaard, 85, formerly of Selah, WA, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 27, 2003 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was born September 10, 1917 in Ellensburg, WA to Mary P. (Williams) and Orbin L. Johnson.
Mable had various sales jobs in Kittitas before starting her career at J.C. Penney in Ellensburg. In 1948, she married Jens K. Nygaard and they moved to Yakima. She continued working at J. C. Penney in Yakima until she retired after 35 years in 1975. She was an active member of Selah Covenant Church for many years.
Mable and Jens celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends at a gathering at the Apple Tree Restaurant on February 14, 1998. Mable and Jens enjoyed traveling in their motor home, camping and fishing. She had moved to Colorado after Jens passed away two years ago to live near a nephew and family.
Survivors include Mable's sister, Nita Hillstrom of Selah, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jens; her parents, Mary and Orbin and an infant brother.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 30, 2003 at Selah Covenant Church, 103 N. 1st Street, Selah. Interment will follow at West Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Selah Covenant Church. Keith & Keith Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
