William Chase Adams served during the Spanish American War. He enlisted and was mustered into service as a Private in Company M of the 1st North Carolina Infantry Regiment, United States Volunteers, on June 12th, 1898, in North Carolina for a period of two years service. He joined the regiment in its camp near Jacksonville, Florida, and was promoted to Corporal shortly thereafter. During his brief time in camp he was taken ill, and being admitted to the post hospital he died on August 12th, 1898, at Jacksonville, Florida."
