FINAL RITES FOR MIKE BECWAR SR., PIONEER SETTLER

Mike Becwar Sr., son of the late Mary and Frank Becwar, early pioneers of Fillmore county, was born January 15, 1872, three miles north of Milligan, in a sod house. Later he moved with his parents to a farm a mile north, where he lived more than 50 years.

Febuary 23, 1897, he was married to Josephine Bech and lived on the home place, he and his wife caring for his aged parents until their death.

In 1923 they moved to their farm one-fourth mile west of Tobias, where their oldest son married, and took over the home place.

They resided near Tobias for 21 years until their youngest son Gus, enter the Armed Services. Gus passed away in Cairo, Egypt. Then they sold their farm near Tobias and moved to Geneva, where they lived for four years, and had the privilege of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.

In 1948 they moved to Milligan, where they enjoyed their life together until his wife passed away July 24, 1951.

After his wife's death, Mr Becwar continued to make his home in Milligan until December 25, 1959 when he became ill and was taken to the Friend hospital, where he spent three years and two months, receiving the best of care by the hospital staff.

Mr. Becwar, like many men who lived in this new country, learned early how to adjust himself to the rigid demands of pioneer life and in this process learned to rightly evaluate the fine values and beauties of a rapidly developing country.

Mr. Becwar passed away Saturday, March 2,1963 at the Friend Hospital at the age of 91 years 1 month, and 15 days. Those left to cherish his memories are five daughters Mrs. James (Barbara)Tasar of Exeter; Mrs. LeRoy (Anna) Foster of Geneva; Mrs. L.J.(Rose) Svec of Milligan; Mrs. James (Emma) Kocaof Exeter, Mrs. Melvin (Val) Moore of Buhl, Idaho; and two sons, Mike Jr. and Frank, both of Exeter; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and host of relatives and good friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, son Gus, on grandson Lloyd Svec at the age of four years, four sisters Mrs. Agnes Janousek, Mrs. Josephine Krizek, Mrs. Barbara Precheil, and Mrs. Mary Tesar, and one brother, Anton.
