Raymond M. Young, 86, Topeka, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006. He was born to Vinson and Agnes Andre Young on January 16, 1920, in Melvern, Kan.

Mr. Young was the owner and operator of Rays Motor Service for more than 30 years. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Young enlisted less than a month after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and served until October of 1945. He was a B-24 Liberator aviation mechanic and crew chief with the 13th Air Force, 307th Bombardment Long Ranger Group, and participated in the New Guinea, Northern Solomons, Bismarck Archipelago, Guadalcanal and Central Pacific Campaigns.

He is survived by Vivian P. Young, his wife of 47 years. Other survivors include daughters, Cindy Craig, Prescott, Ariz., and Marty Long, Mesa, Ariz.; son, Dave Young, Topeka; two sisters, Donita Hotchkiss, Topeka and Laurice Bates, Topeka; brothers Vic Young, Eagle, Idaho and Duane Young, Melvern; grandchildren Sean Craig, Prescott, Ariz. and Teri Shepard, Nixa, Missouri; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Young will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 27th at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where he will lie in state after 12 noon on Sunday and the family will receive friends from Noon to 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 SW 29th, Topeka, KS 66614.
