MELVERN -Ida Janice Stevens King, 83, Melvern, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at an Overbrook nursing home.
She was born Jan, 22, 1915, in Osage County, the daughter of Vincent and Agnes Andre Young. She was raised near Melvern and lived in the Dover and Keene area from 1943 until she moved back to Melvern in 1988.
She married Virgil L. Stevens on May 10, 1936, at Lebo. He died May 12, 1987. She married Lawrence King on Sept. 22, 1988, in Wichita. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Rae Stevens Arnett, Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Dr. Karl Kent Stevens, Boca Raton, Fla.; three sisters, Orpha Bechtle, McPherson, Laurice Bate, Lawrence. and Donita Hotchkiss, Topeka; three brothers, Ray Young, Topeka, Victor Young, Atchison, and Duane Young, Melvern; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery east of Melvern. Mrs. King will lie in state from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday at Jones Crable Funeral Home in Lebo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association and sent in care of the funeral home.
