ELGIN, NORTH DKOTA, DIAMOND JUBILEE 1910 TO 1985
Frank Ackerman was born August 26, 1877, in East Friezeland, Germany, and at the age of twelve emigrated to America with family and settled in Illinois.
Frank went to Iowa to visit a sister and her family. He stayed in Iowa for several years where he worked on farms.
In Iowa, he met Katherine Tajden born March 01, 1878, at Ackley, Iowa. They were married March 11, 1903, at Burt, Iowa, then farmed for four years. Their two eldest children were born in Iowa.
In 1906, Frank filed on a homestead in what is now Grant County and built a house 2.5 miles northwest of present day Heil. All material were hauled by horse and wagon from Glen Ullin.
The family moved into the home in March 1907. Mrs. Ackerman's brother, Henry Tjaden also filed on a homestead two miles from there. They were the only nearby relatives. When Henry moved back to Iowa, his property was sold to Frank. Four children were born in North Dakota.
Frank and Katherine lived on their farm unitl death.
