Found Dead:
An Aged Woman Wanders Off and Dies From Exposure:
Normalville, Nov. 7 - Mrs. Catharine Nicholson of Springfield township was found dead Sunday morning in a field on McClelland Tedrow's farm. Mrs. Nicholson lived with her son Frank, and while he was absent from home Friday evening with a serenading party, she wandered from the house, and on his return home he suppose she had gone to a neighbor's.
All day yesterday parties were searching the neighborhood for her, but not until this morning was her lifeless and cold body found. It is supposed she perished during Friday night's storm.
Deputy Coroner Echard of Connellsville was notified and held an inquest when the above facts were elicited.
Mrs. Nicholson for some years past had partially lost her mind which accounts for her wandering from home. She was aged about 80 years and leaves a number of grown up children most of them residing in this township.
Interment at Daniel Snyder's graveyard yesterday at 2 o'clock p.m.
Catherine/Catharine or Kate Nicholson was married to William Nicholson, son of Robert and Christina Nicholson. William died in 1851.
She was born approx. 1814 and married in 1833.
Children of William and Catherine are:
Benjamin, David, Samuel C., Simon Reese, Julian, William II, Sarah, Henry, Magdalen (Lana), Jacob, Phoebe,
Franklin Nicholson
Have seen various spellings of Catherine's maiden name : Campfield or Kempfield ... Campfield appears in her son Samuel's obituary
No marker was found in the cemetery for her.
