Benjamin served in the Union Army during the Civil War in Company I, 191st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted on February 6, 1865 at the age of 20. He was mustered out on August 27, 1865.
Ben lived on a farm on Pine Hollow Road near Elkton, Ohio. It was said that Ben was always driving his horse and buggy up and down this road. After the death of Ben and his wife Sarah, his two son's Ivy and Herman lived in the home place. Ivy was a good musician and Herman loved to play the mouth organ and was quite good at it. It was in this home were Herman was found burned to death. Ivy was accused of his brothers death, Ivy claimed he found him burning when he returned from the store in Elkton. Ivy claimed he threw water on Herman and called the sheriff. Herman had a book of matches clutched in his hand and the matches weren't even scorched. The kitchen smelled of kerosene. Ivy claimed Herman was always throwing kerosene on the fire. It was assumed that Herman spilled kerosene on him, when he was starting a fire.
Benjamin was listed in the 1915 Farmers Directory of Columbiana Co., Ohio. It stated he owned 19 acres, 2 horses, 2 cows, and lived at rural route 1 Elkton, Ohio.

In the 1870 census, taken on the 1st of June, their is a Benjamin Culler age 25 living in Madison Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. Ben was listed as a Grocer age 25 born in Ohio.

In the 1900 census Ben and his family were living in Elkrun Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. Ben was listed as farmer age 55 born May 1845 in Ohio, his wife Sarah F. age 49, September 1850 in Ohio, their children listed were: Herman D. age 28 born October 1871 in Ohio, Rollin I age 26 born May 1874 and Ivy G. age 12 born December 1887, all were born in Ohio.

In the 1910 census Ben and his family were still living in Elkrun Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. Ben was listed as a a farmer age 64 born in Ohio, his wife Sarah F. age 59 born in Ohio, and their two sons, Herman F. age 37 born in Ohio and Ivy D. age 22 born in Ohio. It also stated that Ben and Sarah have been married for 38 years and had 4 children and all 4 were still living at that time.

To The Recorder of said county:

I hereby certify that on the 3 day of OCTOBER, A.D. 1930, the last will and testament of BENJAMIN CULLER , late of said County, was duly admitted to probate in this Court, and same has been duly recorded in Vol. 44 Page of the Record of Wills in this office.
That by the terms of said will certain real estate was devised to HERMON CULLER, CARRIE DONNALLY, LESSLIE R. CULLER, and IVY CULLER.
That the following is a description of said real estate such as is contained in the will,
Second: I give, devise and bequeath to my son HERMON CULLER my homestead where I reside containing twenty five acres of land more or less to be his absolutely also all my household goods farming implements live stock - cattle, hogs, horses, chickens, hay & straw. I also will and bequeath to him $1000.00 of which I have in the Reserve Mortgage Investment Company of Cleveland, Ohio.
Third: I will and bequeath to Eliza Welker my sister $50.00. Providing she is living at my death otherwise it is to go to my children share & share alike.
Fourth: I will and bequeath the balance of my estate after the above bequests and funeral expenses are paid to be divided among my four children, HERMON CULLER, CARRY DONNALLY, LESSLIE R. CULLER, and IVY CULLER share and share alike.

Elkton man buried--Benjamin Culler, aged 85 years, served through Civil War--Funeral services held Wednesday A.M.

The death of Benjami Culler of Elkton occurred in his home Monday morning at 6 o'clock following an illness due to his advanced age. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Culler and was born in Elkton, where he had resided since his birth on May 8, 1845. He enlisted in the Civil War and served in Co. I, 191st O.V.I. during the entire conflict.
Four children survive, Mrs. E. S. Donelley, of Lisbon; Herman and Ivy, at home, and Leslie, of East Palestine. His wife preceded him in death about 12 years ago. The deceased was a member of the Elkton Methodist Church and a farmer by occupation. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from Kemble's Church, with rev. B. H. Shadduck, officiating. burial was made in the church cemetery.
