ROCKFORD -- Edward Theodore Johnson, 76, of Rockford died at 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born June 10, 1928, in New Britain, Conn., the son of Edward and Claudine Liverman Johnson. Married Henrietta 'Van' VanZuiden. Graduated from Meriden High School, Class of 1946. He attended Milwaukee School of Engineering, graduating in September 1951. Employed at Barber-Colman (controls division) for 42 years, retiring on June 10, 1993. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. Member of Second Congregational Church, where he served as a deacon. Survivors include his wife, Van; daughters, Mary Kay Wiles of North Carolina, Laura Marie (Thomas) Hargis of Stillman Valley and Susan Fay (Michael) Long of Rockford; grandchildren, Amy Wiles Cody, Grant Wiles and Sarah Hargis; step-grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Long; great-granddaughter, Megan Cody; and numerous nieces and nephews residing in Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts and Florida. Predeceased by four sisters; one brother; and son-in-law, Douglas Wiles.

Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, in Second Congregational Church, with the Rev. J. Michael Solberg officiating. Private burial in Arlington Memorial Park. No visitation. Memorials may be given to Second Congregational Church. Arrangements completed by Fred C. Olson Funeral Chapels Ltd., East Chapel, 1001 Second Ave.
