John D. Stevens' mother was Sarah Elizabeth Hornsby, daughter of John Allen Hornsby and Narcissa Cole. Sarah Elizabeth was married to John J. Stevens; she died when their son was born. She is buried in a small cemetery on land that belonged to her parents in what is now known as the Eanon Community in Northeastern Coffee Co., AL. As long as the land belonged to Hornsby decendents, the cemetery was protected. John J. Stevens left the baby in care of Sarah Elizabeth's family and he moved on.
