Services for Clarence B. Herren, 80, were held Monday, May 4 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello with burial in the church cemetery with military honors. The Revs. Gary Hatcher and Martin Schreiber officiated at the services.
Clarence B. Herren of Amber died Friday, May 1 at his son's home in Marion following a long illness. He was born November 7, 1911 at Amber, the son of Benhard and Minnie Harms Herren. He received his education in the Millersburg schools. In 1935, he moved back to Amber where he worked at the White Rose filling station.
Clarence B. Herren and Clara Bodeker were married May 5, 1939 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Amber where Clarence worked at the filling station and later was a butter maker at the Amber Mutual Creamery. He served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Seabees. Following discharge, he farmed for six years, then operated a tank wagon for Farm Service for 10 years, later working at Collins Radio and Kennedy Lumber in Wyoming where he retired. Following retirement he was employed part time at Jones County landfill.
He was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello; a member of the American Legion and VFW Posts in Anamosa, and the Amber Community Club.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry of Marion; three grandsons; and a great-grandson. He is also survived by four sisters, Lorene Hartgrave of Marion, Velma Swanson of Beverly, Mass., Lucille Larson of Idyllwild, Calif.; Louella Parker of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and four brothers, Ervin and Melvin, both of Marion, Milton of Lisbon, and Vernon of Pollock Pines, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers.
Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, was in charge of arrangements.
