CLARENCE WILLIAM FOX, 77, of Stoneboro RD 2, who was sub-foreman at the National Fuel Gas Co.'s Henderson field when he retired in 1969, died at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday May 19, 1982 in the Greenville Hospital following an extended illness. He was born October 29, 1904, in Van, a son of the late Charles Alexander and Etta Louella Boyer Fox. He spent his early life in that area, attending the Lamberton School in Rockland Township. He started his employment at the United Natural Gas Co. (now NFG) in 1924 and prior to that had worked for the New York Central and the Pennsylvania Railroads. He left UNG for a brief period in 1933 and returned there in 1935. He had 34 years of continuous employment when he retired in 1969. He was married to the former Freda Belle Heckathorn of the Van area on July 6, 1929, and they moved to Hendersonville to make their home 31 years ago. Mr. Fox was an active member of the Hendersonville United Methodist Church and prior to his illness had been a church trustee, treasurer of the church and was a Sunday school Bible class teacher for 14 years. His wife survives him, along with two brothers Nelson Leroy Fox of Cooperstown and Charles Norman Fox of Bartlesville, OK. A daughter, Shirley Mae Fox, two sisters and three brothers are deceased. The family will receive friends at the Edward P. McMullen Funeral Home, Sandy Lake, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held there at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. James W. Hamilton, pastor of the Hendersonville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Heckathorn Cemetery.
