Dorothy Adelaide Russell was born
March 27, 1908, at the farm home
of her parents, Herman Julius and
Bertha Andeana Haggman Anderson, rural
Scandia, and died November 2, 1987, at
Asbury Hospital in Salina, at the age of 79
years, seven months and five days.
She was baptized August 18,1911 at Ada
Lutheran Church, Kackley. She attended
Center Rural School and graduated from
Courtland High School in 1925.
On May 7, 1939 she was married to Carl
Hoffman Russell at Belleville. She lived in
the Scandia and Courtland communities all
her life and on the farm with her family
since 1934. To the union were born six sons
and four daughters.
She was a member of the Courtland
United Methodist Church, WSCS, now
United Methodist Women, and received an
honorary membership. She was a member
of Miriam Circle.
At the time of her death she had been
recuperating from a previous automobile
accident.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; two brothers; her husband, Carl
in 1979.
Surviving are: two sisters, Eula Hurtig of
Concordia, Elizabeth Gindele of Parkridge,
Ill.; ten children: C. Chester of Courtland,
James D. of Fort Collins, Colo., Phyllis
Mahin of Courtland, Warren E. of Scandia,
Beverly L. Sothers of Courtland, Max R. of
Wamego, Maxine J. Fredrickson of Quinter,
Kans., Kenneth J. of Abilene, Charles R.
of Courtland, Penny Lou True of Council
Grove, Kans.; 31 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held November
5 from the United Methodist Church of
Courtland with Rev. Richard Zimmerman
officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery.
