He is the son of Abraham and Phebe (Taber) Ashley. He married January 3, 1799 in Dartmouth Massachusetts, Nancy Phillips. He married July 18, 1816 in Dartmouth, Elizabeth Wordell.

He was named in his fathers will as follows:

"I give my son Taber Ashley a piece of Cedar Swamp in Dartmouth, in which I bought of Stephen Taber and my beaver hat."

He served as a private in the War of 1812 in the second company from Freetown.

He is buried in the cemetery located in back of his home. The home is still standing as of this date.
