He was born 9 Jun 1824 in Dlouha Lhota No. 31, Tabor District, South Bohemian Region, Empire of Austria (now Czech Republic). He was son of Josef Taraba and Terezie Svacek Taraba, both born in Bohemia and both died in 1862 at Dlouha Lhota No. 31. They are buried in the old church cemetery at Choustnik near Dlouha Lhota. He married Anna Dolezal in Bohemia, daughter of Frantisek (Frank) Dolezal. They became parents of a possibly five children, three surviving to adulthood: Martin, James, and Filip (Philip), all born in Bohemia. He died 23 Jan 1888 in 187 W. 12th St., Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In 1874, they made their way from Bohemia to Bremen, Germany, where they boarded the SS Nurnberg for the long journey to a new country. They arrived in America at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland on May 4, 1874. From there they took a train to Chicago, Illinois, where they settled.

Except for the sons, no trace is found of Frank and Anna until the 1900 census, when Anna is found, a widow, in the home of the youngest son, Philip (Filip). In 1892, the three sons are listed as registered voters, but not their father. It can probably be assumed that Frank was deceased even before 1892.

Death record for Frank has now been confirmed and shown above.
