Oma George Harvey, Sr., a retired employee of Uniroyal, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011, two days before his 89th birthday at Flannery Oaks Guest House after a brief illness. He was a resident of Central and a former 50-year resident of Baker. He was born on May 13, 1922, to Ella and Murray Harvey.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Wanda Evans Harvey; son, George Harvey Jr., of Slaughter; daughter, Ellen Smith, of Central; grandsons, Robert Nelson Jr. and wife Raquel, of Zachary, John Smith and wife Sherry, of Walker, Chuck Harvey and wife Jennifer, of Okechobee, Fla., Mike Smith, of Fort Worth, Texas, Ricky Harvey and wife Mandy, of Zachary, and Nathan Harvey and wife Janice, of Norwood; sister, Stella Fenton; three brothers, Willie Harvey, Murl Harvey, and Thomas Harvey and wife Ann; great-grandchildren, Randy Nelson, Lora Nelson, Steve Nelson, Zakk Nelson, Celeste Smith, Jacob Harvey, Kylei Harvey, Caleb Harvey Kelsie Harvey, Keasha Smith and Brooke Smith; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by parents, Ella and Murray Harvey; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles "Ed" and Vera "Peeby" Evans; brother, Jefferson Garcie; grandson, Terry A. Smith; and sisters-in-law, Erline Harvey and Rena Garcie Goss.

Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, with a Masonic service. Visiting at Baker First Baptist Church until services, conducted by the Rev. Jay Advance and the Rev. George Haile. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge.

He was a 60-year member of First Baptist Church of Baker and served as a deacon there for many years and was a long time member of the Baker Masonic Lodge. He was a fine Christian man and lived a life that exemplified his faith in Christ and was a shining example to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was loved so very much by the entire family and by all who knew him and he will be missed more than any words could ever say. Till we meet again someday.
