He attended the one-room school at Green Creek and worked with his father on the farm, at the saw mill and with the threshing machine. Henry married Kate Schmidt May 5, 1908, at St. Mary Help of Christians. His father died in 1909 and his mother and the rest of his siblings moved to Idaho. Henry stayed on the family farm in Illinois.
Henry and Kate had seven children, Herman, Celia, Elizabeth, Christine, Mary, Henry and Bertha.
He died at his home near Green Creek at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 16, 1923, after suffering from cancer for several years. His death at age 42 left his wife with seven children between the ages of 14 and 1. Besides his wife and children, survivors included his mother, three brothers in Idaho, three sisters, two in Idaho and one in St. Louis.
