Vincent A. Walsh, 85, of West Sayville died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Born in Brooklyn to Willard and Mary Walsh on April 26, 1927, he attended Our Lady Help of Christians School and Brooklyn Prep High School. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal. In 1949, he and his bride, Peggy Westerman, settled in Levittown and began raising a family. Vincent joined IBEW Local 25 and worked as an electrician. As their family grew, they moved to West Sayville in 1957. Vincent pursued a teaching certificate from Teachers' College of Columbia University then became a high school vocational education teacher. He taught in Newfield, Connetquot, and Brentwood High Schools before joining BOCES II where he taught in both the Bellport and Oakdale centers. While teaching, he served as union delegate and president of his NYSUT local unit. At the same time, Vincent was an instructor in the IBEW 25 Apprenticeship program. All the while, he continued his education, attaining a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Hofstra University. Upon his retirement from teaching, he returned to work as an electrician until retiring for good in 1989. He devoted himself to his family, particularly his grandchildren. After Peggy's death in 2005, Vincent became a member of the St. John Nepomucene R.C. Church Eucharistic Ministry, delivering Holy Communion to nursing home residents and the homebound. Throughout the years, he was politically active, lobbying for Single-Payer Healthcare and serving as a committeeman and a member of the Executive Board of the Islip Town Democratic Committee.

Vincent was beloved by his children, Fr. Kevin, O.C.S.O., Greg, Steve, and Matthew; Candice Wetherell; and the late Colleen and Robert as well as his daughters-in-law Patricia, Regina, and Maria. He was the adored Grandpa of Susan, Jody, Peter, Allison, Katie, David, Erin, Lynne, Marissa, Daniel, Colleen, Brian, Shannon, and Jasmin; and the proud great-grandfather of Ryan, Kyle, Dylan, Gavin, Leah, Alex, Garrett, and Cameron. He was the loving brother of his twin, Gerard, and the late Willard Walsh as well as the fond uncle of sixteen nieces and nephews.

Visitation Monday, April 1 at Raynor and D'Andrea Funeral Home, 245 Montauk Highway, West Sayville. Funeral Mass 10 AM Tuesday, April 2 at St. John Nepomucene R.C. Church, Bohemia.
