Nina Mae McKenzie Brooks, age 88, of Reliance, Polk County, Tennessee, passed away October 05, 2013 at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah, McMinn County, Tennessee. She was of the Baptist faith. She loved to sew and quilt. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, children and grandchildren. Nina was a nature lover and enjoyed the mountains surrounding her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Andrew Brooks, Junior; her parents, Clarence Albert and Dehlia Susan Prock McKenzie; two daughters Linda Nell and Nancy Caroline Brooks; and her sister Estle Effie Lou McKenzie Welch. Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law Judith Kay Donato of Reliance, Tennessee, Patricia Ann and Kenneth Gray of Madisonville, Tennessee, Susan Noreen and Steven Powers of Reliance, Tennessee; grandchildren: Matthew and Victoria Powers of Reliance, Tennessee, Adoracion Croft of Cleveland, Tennessee, Andrew Donato, Angela Rodriguez and Amber Donato of Reliance, Tennessee. 7 great grandchildren (Eowyn and Caitlinn Croft, Isaiah, Jazzalyn and Ivan Rodrigues and Destinee and Blake Langley). Brothers and sisters-in-law Clarence Franklin and Ola Mae McKenzie of Dalton, Georgia, Erval Dale and Nola McKenzie of Cleveland, Tennessee; sister and brother-in-law: Cleophis Claudette and Bill Harmon of Cleveland, Tennessee. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family received friends Monday at Myers Funeral Home with the funeral services following. Family and friends will assemble at Hamby Duggan Cemetery in Reliance, Tennessee on Tuesday for the 2 p.m. committal service. Myers Funeral Home of Tellico Plains in charge of services.

In the 1930 US Census, she is living in the District 5 of Monroe County on Steer Creek Road and not attending school. In the 1940 US Census, she had not moved, lives on a farm and completed the 6th grade by this time.
