: Charles A. "Sonny" Adams Jr. 70, died Friday, January 16, 2004, at his home following a brief illness. He was the husband of Jeannette G. (Hoffman) Adams, with whom he celebrated a 48th wedding anniversary this past May 14th.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Geiple Funeral Home Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be no viewing. Officiating will be Pastor Gregory Thomas of Grace Fellowship, York New Salem.
Mr. Adams was born June 11, 1933, in York, a son of the late Charles A. "Sam" and Bernice I. (Klinedinst) Adams.
He Served as Chief of Police for North Codorus Township and York New Salem Borough from 1911 until his retirement in 1991. He had also served as a part-time Police Officer for Gten Rock Borough from 1959 until 1971 and following his retirement he served as a Deputy Sheriff for the York County Sheriff Department. He was currently an active volunteer with a citizens group associated with the Southwestern Regional Police Department. Following his graduation from Glen Rock High School in 1951 he had worked at the former Glen Rock Steam Bakery and then with AMP Inc. as set up person until 1971. He had also recently worked with hIs son at Southern York Turf and Tractor in set up and delivery of garden equipment, of which he was an avid collector of John Deere Garden Tractors and attended many local collector shows. He was a member of the York County Chief of Police Association, the Tri County Chief of Police Association and the Central Pennsylvania Chief of Police Association, the North Codorus fire Company and the Community fire Company, York New Salem. He was also currently serving as Secretary of the Glen Rack High School Alumni Association. He also leaves a son, Harvey L. "Clyde” Adams of Glen Rock; a daughter, Beth A. Hitz of Emigsvliie; a grandson, Ryan M. Adams; two sisters, Mary J. Smith of York and LInda Heffner of Stewartstown; and two brothers, James Adams of York and Lewis Adams of Seven Valleys. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ketty Marie Adams. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA of Hanover/Spring Grove, 440 North Madison Avenue, Hanover, PA 11331; or to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 1'403.
