Pauline Cecelia Stieffermann, the eighth child of Peter and Cecelia Stieffermann, was born 13 May 1900 at Kliever, Moniteau County, Missouri.

She received her elementary school education at Holy Trinity School, Okarche, Oklahoma.

In July of 1917 Pauline entered the Sisters Adorers of the Most Precious Blood novitiate at Ruma, Illinois. She was invested in the Religious Habit 16 July 1918 and chose for her name, Sister Mary Petrona (Little Peter) in honor of her father.

Sister made her first or temporary vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience on 17 July 1919. After making these vows, Sister was transferred to Wichita, Kansas. She taught in various elementary schools in Kansas and Oklahoma.

She returned to Ruma, Illinois to make her perpetual vows on 5 August 1924, after which she returned to Wichita.

Sister Mary Petrona Stieferman obtained her Bachelor's degree, with a major in literature, from Fort Hays College, Hays, Kansas. She did graduate work at Notre Dame University, South Bend, Indiana.

When Sacred Heart College opened in 1933 at Wichita, Sister Mary Petrona became its first Librarian and Registrar. Later she became Librarian for the Community, setting up libraries in the schools the Community staffed.

Sister then had charge of the Religious Correspondence, but, as her health was failing, she was assigned to St. Francis Hospital, Carlsbad, New Mexico. There she brought joy and peace to the many sick people she visited.

She returned to Wichita in May 1961. On 27 July 1961 Sister was taken to St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, where she died 29 July 1961. She was buried in the Convent Cemetery.

Sister Mary Petrona is remembered for her cheery smile and her great kindness. Her students fondly called her "Little Pete". But most especially she she is remembered for her great devotion to the Holy Guardian Angel, whom she lovingly called "Chubby".

To honor the memory of Sister Mary Petrona Stieferman, and as an expression of love and respect, her many friends and relatives, under sponsorship of the Alumni, formed a living memorial in the form of a Perpetual Scholarship. Students have received the benefits of this effort since 1963.
