Woman Suffocates In Bedroom Blaze
A cigarette was named as possible cause for a fire early today which killed Mrs. Grace Risk, 68.
Lima fire officials received a call from Bath fire department about 1 a.m. reporting fire at 1221 McCullough.
Upon arrival, fire fighters were told by police and a neighbor that Mrs. Risk probably was inside her home.
Fire fighters entered the home and found Mr. Risk in bed while television was playing. Coroner William Noble rules the woman dead by asphyxiation.
Indications were the woman had been watching television and fell asleep with a cigarette still buring. A small dog was found alive in the living room, and was revived by the rescue unit, officials said.
Fire damage was estimated at $500 to the contents and $1.000 to the building. Fire was donfined to the bedroom.
Mrs. Risk was born September 17, 1902, in Convoy, the daughter of Charles V. and Flora May Welch Gause.
She was a retired elevator operator at the Colonial Building.
Survivors include a son, Charles of Rt. 5; a brother,
Kenneth L. Cause of 1208 McCullough; and one grandchild.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chiles and Sons-Laman West Wayne Street Chapel, Rev. Willard Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
