Mr. Roy Avant, 81, of 114 W. First Street Sandersville died Sunday, August 12, at the University Hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 14, from First Baptist Church with Rev. Dan McPherson and Rev. Marvin Ferguson officiating. Interment was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Avant was born June 25, 1909 in Washington County. He was the son of the late Jim H. Avant and Etta Turner Avant. He was an auto repairman and a member of First Baptist Church in Sandersville. He was married to Minnie Bell Chambers and was a member of W.O.W., Twin City County Club and a deacon of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Minnie Bell Chambers Avant; one son, Roy Avant Jr.; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Jean Holmes; two brothers, Billy Avant and Alton Avant; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Ricky Hattaway, Bennie Avant, Horace Avant Jr., Lloyd Avant Jr., Joe Avant and Jimmy Avant.
Honorary pallbearers were Irwin Evans Sunday School Class, Welborn Dukes, Marshall and Ped Lacy and Enoch Rhodes.
Lang's Chapel was in change of the arrangements.
