At one time, Mr. Avant was a meat cutter for L.D. Smith's Grocery on S.Wayne St. and was well known in Milledgeville.
Funeral services were held Wed. at the First Baptist Church in Sandersville a 3:30 p.m. with burial in Washington County Memorial Gardens. The Rev. J.A. Ivey, Rev. Dan Watson and Rev. Joseph A. Moore officiated.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, five daughters and two sisters, and six brothers also survive. His brother Mr. Claxton Avant resides in Milledgeville.
