Miss Taylor was born September 13, 1915, daughter of the late Samuel and Lillian (Service) Taylor.
A graduate of Limestone College, she taught 37 years in Cherokee County Schools and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Gaffney since 1925.
She is survived by a sister, Janell Taylor Sarratt of Gaffney; a niece; five nephews; many friends and devoted students.
Ione organized the South Carolina Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and often spoke to civic clubs and other gatherings. She had lived with Type I Diabetes for 66 years.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 28, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Chapel, Gaffney with Dr. Bobby Morrow and Rev. Joel Sellers officiating. Interment followed at Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney.
Visitation was held 2:00-2:45 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Chapel, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2724 Wade Hampton Boulevard, Suite E, Greenville, SC 29615; or First Baptist Church of Gaffney, 200 North Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.
