Clara Kate Coates Ramsey, 89, of Ramsey Brothers Road, Marshall, N.C. died Wednesday, May 31, 2000.

A lifelong resident of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Patty Rice Coates. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Ramsey, who died in 1993. She was a member of Peek's Chapel Baptist Church.

She was survived by a son and his wife, Bobby L. and Hilda Ramsey of Weaverville; a grandson and his wife, Chris and Joan Ramsey, and a great-grandson, Hunter Ramsey, all of Grove, Okla.; foster son, Perry King; four foster-grandchildren; one foster-great-grandchild; sisters, Ann Wallin and Pauline Phillips of Weaverville; and brothers, Harold Coates and Farold Coates of Marshall and Paul Coates of Asheville.

The funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2000 at Peek's Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Murray and Ebb Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Ramsey Cemetery. Capps Funeral Home in Mars Hill, N.C. handled arrangements.
