Gertrude was the daughter of James F. McGee and Elizabeth Ann Merklee. She married Edward Graham Ashbrook on May 10, 1882 in Plainfield, NJ. and moved with her husband to Philadelphia.
They had three children Myron G. born and died May 28, 1883, Charlotte Garwood born Dec. 23, 1885 and Margaret Garwood born Oct. 29, 1891.
She out lived her husband by almost 53 years and spent a lot of her years traveling back and forth to Europe. In her later years she lived with her son-in-law Lester Weck Feezer and daughter Charlotte Feezer in Tucson, AZ. In later years she lost her sight and most of her hearing, but her mind remained sharp to the end of her life. She was cremated and her remains were returned to West Laurel Hill where her husband had been buried many years previous.
