Son of Oliver Milton Dampier & Amelia Pope Godbold

Married Frances Louise Corker 21 March 1931. Sacramento County, California.
Children:
Guy Milton Dampier - 17 April 1932 (deceased)

Married Tait Dena Neeman 8 August 1944

Milton was the last of eight siblings in his family and grew up not only with many siblings but also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in San Jose.

Milton had an affinity with the sea. He is found on several crew manifiests as an ordinary seaman, eg. on the SS President Roosevelt and the SS Algic in 1927. In 1927 in New York he applied for documentation as a US citizen for seamen after being on the SS Panama.

His marriage with Frances Corker didn't last long as she with son Guy are living in San Bernardino, California, in the 1940 census, there since 1935. Both she and Guy eventually went to Massachusetts where both died in 1985.

He enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, serving from 18 February 1941 to 25 August 1945, leaving service as a Boatswains Mate 1st Class. In 1945 he is a US Navy man with wife Tait while living in New Orleans; and again in 1956 with Tait who was working as a waitress.

Milton most probably met Tait in his California home town. In the 1940 census she is divorced from her first husband, Luther Niles, and working as a waitress in San Jose. His navy career took them to New Orleans where they decided to remain after his discharge.

New Orleans was also the home for several years for his brother Courtland, the first to go to New Orleans from California, followed by his brother Frank who is buried there.
