William Henry Wakefield passed away at the age of 79 years. He was born to George G. and Minerva Bell Wells Wakefield near Plano, Iowa. He had been in failing health for several years. He married Cadie Grace Stargel on May 7, 1910. There were 15 children born to this union.
He spent most of his life in Iowa with the exception of three years in Missouri and a year in Mexico. He was a farmer pouring his working years into farming, he had also worked on the Milwaukee Railroad, at coal mining, house-moving, threshing machine operator and a teamster.
He is survived by his wife; children, Harold Wakefield of Exline, IA, Lena Rossona of Brooklyn, NY, Anna Margetich of Rock Island, IL, Grace Irene Walker of Elko, NV, Marie Lawson of Promise City, IA, Sarah Mikels, Alice Wakefield, Woodrow Wakefield, Ruth Benz, and Bobby Wakefield all of Centerville, IA, Harry Wakefield of Colona, IL, Everett Wakefield serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Riley, KS. Ray Wakefield and Margaret Robinson of Los Angles, CA and Cleo Higgs of Mt. Vernon, WA. from his first marriage to Margaret; sisters, Hattie Brandsfield of Cedar Rapids, IA and Ella Johnson of Centerville, IA as well as 36 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lydia and Sadie, brothers, Jess and Ben Wakefield, Infant daughter and son, Ersel Wakefield killed in combat in World War II.
