Elizabeth (1875-1927)m. Julius Langhorst
Samuel A.(1876-1963)
Charles (1878-?)
The family lived in the Goulbourn Township area of Carleton County. It is estimated that they came to this country in 1879, by 1880 they were living in Willow, Crawford County, Iowa. Sometime in the next couple of years the family moved to Elmwood, Cass County, Nebraska. In the Cass County Historical Society History of the Louisville Hotel which was built in 1891 by Jake Cain it is said that "He ran it for a while then sold it to Sam (Kitts) who "ran it for a number of years".
The 1900 US. Census lists Samuel Kitts Sr(which is why the above death year on the tombstone is problematic (on closer inspection the base appears to be older than the top stone), which means it might have been replaced....The tax lists for 1897 in Elmwood District has S. Kitts listed. by 1901 only Catherine and Charles are listed. By 1906 no Kitts are listed in Elmwood Precinct at all.
Mrs. Langhorst's mother, Mrs. Katherine Kitts, was 85 years old at the time of her daughter's death (Lizzie died in 1927) and lived with her son Samuel A Kitts Jr. in Best, Texas. She is listed as to infirm to travel to the service in Elmwood. She appears in U.S. Directories for Texas until 1930. Samuel Jr. died in 1963 in Howard, County, Texas.
