CRYSTAL SPRINGS - L. B. Matthews, 72, was killed in an automobile accident at Georgetown Saturday around noon.
He was the father of Mrs. Hugh White, wife of the former governor of Mississippi.
Matthews, who was driving a pick-up truck, was in collision with a gravel truck at Pearl River Bridge on Highway 28 near Georgetown.
A resident of Harrisville, he was a retired farmer and a native of Copiah County.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Harmony Baptist Church, east of Crystal Springs. Interment will be in the church cemetery, with Baldwin Funeral home in charge.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Helen Pittman, California, Mrs. W. H. McLellan, Mrs. D. E. McLelland, both of Hattiesburg, and Mrs. Hugh White, of Jackson, Mrs. Alice Harper, San Antonio, Tex.; two sons, Herbert W. Matthews, Picayune, Douglas Matthews, of Harrisville; two sisters, Mrs. P. A. Slay, Crystal Springs, Mrs. Ira Ellis, Carthage; one brother, Dan Matthews, Crystal Springs; eight grand children; two great-grandchildren.
