MOUNT HOLLY SPRINGS -- Richard E. Gutshall Sr., 71, of 409 Chestnut St. died Tuesday in the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Middlesex Twp.
He retired from Carlisle Barracks; was a member of Mount Holly Springs Church of God and the Mechanicsburg VFW; and an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Darhower Gutshall; three sons, Richard E. Jr. and Robert E., both of Carlisle, and Ronald E. of Gardners; a daughter, Bertha R. Miller of Newville; a sister, Ruth F. Moffitt of Newville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Friday in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Twp.

Richard E. Gutshall Sr., Funeral services for Richard E. Gutshall Sr., 71, of 409 Chestnut St., Mt. Holly Springs, will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle.
He died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998 at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Middlesex Township.
Born Sept. 27, 1926 in Lower Frankford Township to the late Albert E. and Bertha F. Sipe Gutshall, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired in 1986 from the Carlisle Barracks after many years of service.
He was a member of Mechanicsburg VFW and Mt. Holly Springs Church of God.
Mr. Gutshall is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary E. Darhower Gutshall; three sons, Richard E. Jr. and Robert E. of Carlisle, and Ronald E. of Gardners; a daughter, Bertha R. Miller of Newville; a sister, Ruth F. Moffitt of Newville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Richard L. Reese will officiate at services. Burial will be held at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home between 7 and 9 p.m. on Thursday.
