FORT WAYNE – Thomas L. "Tom" Woodcock, 59, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Auburn, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his home in Fort Wayne.
Tom was born Dec. 9, 1953, in Garrett to Alfred E. and Alma L. (Stoll) Woodcock.
He grew up in Auburn, attending schools in Auburn and graduated from DeKalb High School in the class of 1971
While in high school, Tom delivered the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette in the Auburn area. In late July of 1971, Tom took a 600-mile bike trip with the Youth for Christ to Canada riding 50 miles a day.
In November of 1971, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy, graduating from Great Lakes Naval Base in North Chicago on Jan. 14, 1971. He served in Bremerhaven, Germany, for the first three years and on the USS Charles F. Adams in 1976 and the USS Forrestal in 1979. He was honorable discharged in 1979.
Tom's hobbies were buying and selling storage units, fishing and spending time with his dog "Buddy."
He volunteered at the food bank in Fort Wayne on Saturday mornings. He was employed with Care Recycling, a division of National Serv-All of Fort Wayne.
He is survived by a brother, Glen A. Woodcock of Churubusco; five sisters, Marjorie Hecht of Fort Wayne, and Carolyn (Dale) Healy, Gloria (Bill) Howe, Linda Kapp and Connie Sue (Lynn) Carper, all of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred in 1995 and Alma in 2003; a brother, Marvin in 2009; three nephews; and a great niece.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St., Auburn, with Pastor Carroll McNutt officiating. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana, with military services being conducted by the U.S. Navy.
