Bert was the first born son of Edward Trimble and Heneryette Margratia Brainard. He was the oldest of 8 children. Bert had seven younger siblings. A brother, Allen Kirk, a brother Edward Floyd who died at two years old, a sister, Andrea Grace, a brother, Theodore Roosevelt, a sister, Dora Theresa who they called, Polly, and a brother, George Raymond whom everyone called Buster.

Bert grew up in Missouri and married Fay Foster on the 3 August 1912 when he was 21 years old. A son, Edward Don Trimble would come from this union.

Bert's draft card indicates that he worked for the Chicago Great Western Railroad. The draft card also indicates that he is of medium build, slender and has gray eyes and black hair. The 1930 Census shows he had moved to Conception Junction in Nodaway County Missouri.

When he died he was living at 5038 Park Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. His death certificate indicates that he was a conductor for the Chicago and Great Western Railroads. He died from a pulmonary embolism that he obtained from the amputation of his right leg. He was in an auto accident on February 21, 1959. On April 22, 1959 they amputated his right leg which caused the blood clot that eventually killed him.
