His place of birth in the Descriptive Book of Company B shows Whitehall, New York and that he was a fireman at enlistment. The 1880 U.S. Census shows that he was born in New York but the 1900 and 1910 Census records show Vermont.
His wife was Imogene, born in Ohio in January 12, 1856 and died Oct. 18, 1945. She is buried with Charles.
Charles and Imogene had seven children: Clifford, born in 1875, Jessie, born 1878, Jane, born 1879, Alva W., born Aug. 1881, Clara, born Dec. 1886, all in Ohio, Rollo G., born Sept. 1890, in Tennessee, and Roy Charles, born Dec. 6, 1892, in Bearden, Tennessee(Knox County).
