WEST END, September 15 -- A sad and shocking accident occurred near this place about 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. Johnson May and George Hillegass were out hunting and on their way home stopped to talk before parting, taking seats on a fence. Mr. May rested the butt of his gun on a log below. The gun slipped, the hammer struck the log and the weapon was discharged. The whole charge entered May's breat, killing him almost instantly. He was about 18 years of age and was a son of Mr. Simon May. He was highly respected by all who knew him. The funeral took place to-day from the Lutheran church at Madley, the services being conducted by Rev. Braehm.
