RIO – Peter Skogen, 73, died suddenly from heart failure while shopping in a store in Portage last Saturday. He had suffered from influenza for several weeks, but was improving.

Mr. Skogen was born in the town of Otsego 73 years ago on January 31, 1871. He was a son of the late Kurt and Ingeborg Skogen, who died in the years 1899 and 1915 respectively. He was one of ten children born to them, five sons and five daughters. They are Hans Skogen of Montevideo, Minnesota; Peter Olavus, the deceased; Anna Louise, Mrs. Herman Hegna, Rio; Carrie, Mrs. John Barraclough, who died February 3, 1941; Emma, Mrs. Harry Barraclough of Columbus, who died in 1940; Louis Skogen, who died about 25 years ago; Clara Olava, died at the age of five; Ingwald Theodore (Willie) of Kenosha; a son who died in infancy and Sena Peterson of Wyocena.

Peter was baptized in infancy and confirmed by the late Reverend H.A. Preau in the class of 1886.

He spent all of his life in this vicinity, working mostly as a painter. He also did carpenter work. For a number of years he conducted a photography gallery here in the village.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Thompson Chapel, the Reverend G.A. Sundby officiating. Burial took place at the Bonnet Prairie Cemetery. The following acted as pallbearers: Obert Staveness, William Paulson, Ralph Scott, George Hanson, Andrew Lewison and James Jameson.
