Mr. Lewis Benjamin "Sam" Gooding, of Hampton, went home to be with his Lord December 21, 2012.

Mr. Gooding was born September 5, 1929 to the late Bennie Abraham and Corrie Elizabeth Thomas Gooding in the Miley section of Hampton County. As a child, his father affectionately called him "Sambo" and everyone knew him as Sam.

Mr. Gooding retired after 30 years from the United States Postal Service.

He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, gardener and tree farmer. Sam was a member of the Jenny Hunting Club in Brunson for over fifty years. He was a longtime member of Sandy Run Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Fennell Gooding; brother, John Bernard Gooding of Savannah, Georgia; special first cousin, Helen Gooding Youmans of Hampton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lewis Benjamin "Ben" Gooding; brother, William Henry "Bill" Gooding; and sister, Ruth Emma Gooding Brinson.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm, December 23, 2012, at Sandy Run Baptist Church, with interment following in Gooding Cemetery.
