Nick Cleveringa is heart victim, lived whole life in county

Nicholas Cleveringa passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 29, at his home in Newkirk. Death was due to a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the church basement and at 1:30 p.m. in the Newkirk Reformed church with Reverend Stanley Schipper and Reverend Z. Roetman officiating. Mrs. William Van Rooyen was the organist.

Special music included two numbers, "The Love of God" and "Rock of Ages" sung by the male quartet, Gary Lyftogt, Reynold Van Gelder, Stanley De Haan and Lloyd Grotenhuis.

Burial was in the Newkirk cemetery. Pallbearers were Howard Cleveringa, James Cleveringa, Jake Baartman, Ted Baarunan, Roy Bloemendaal and Gilbert Rensink. Arrangements were made by the Van Etten funeral home.

Mr. Cleveringa, son of Hiske De Vries and Jacob Cleveringa, was born Oct. 28, 1885, on a farm near Maurice.

He was united in marriage to Gertrude Jurink on Dec. 7, l91l and to this union two sons and two daughters were born. They resided on a farm northeast of Newkirk until twelve years ago when they retired and moved to their present home in Newkirk.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Abe and Gerb Cleveringa and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Baartman and Mrs. Gerrit Boone.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Hester (Mrs. William Peuse) of Middleburg, son, Henry, of Jasper, Minn., daughter, Berdena, (Mrs. Henry De Boer) of Brookings, South Dakota; and son, James, of Sheldon. Nine grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Bloemendaal of Orange City and Mrs. Henry Roghair of Okaton, South Dakota, also survive.
