Mrs. Herman Baartman died at her home in Rock Valley at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday morning with embolism of the heart. She had not been well Sunday but attended church services and Monday had been out in the garden. She became very ill at 2 a.m. Tuesday and died soon afterward.
Mrs. Baartman was born December 22, 1880 and on January 11,1900 married to Herman Baartman of Middleburg at Orange City. Her husband preceded her in death February 28, 1929.
They settled on farm near Orange City, then went to Boyden, later to Ireton before coming to a farm three miles east of Rock Valley where they lived for 21 years. Four years ago they moved to Rock Valley where she lived until her passing.
Surviving are her ten children Peter Baartman, Hills, Minn.; Jacob Baartman, Rock Valley; William Baartman, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Roy Baartman, Sheldon; Harriett (Mrs. Ernest Block), Portland, Ore.; Elizabeth, (Mrs. Gerrit Van Maanen), Rock Valley; Albertus, serving with the armed forces in Italy; Herbert Baartman of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Theodore Baartman home on furlough from Texas enroute to Utah, and Miss Theressa Baartman at home.
She is also survived by her brothers and sisters Ralph Cleveringa, Orange City; Abe of Chicago and Mrs. Ralph Bloemendaal, Orange City; Nicholas Clevringa, Newkirk; Gerben Cleveringa, Sheldon; Mrs. Harry Roghair, Okaton, N.D., and Mrs. Gerrit Boone, Britton, S.D. There are 6 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Christian Reformed church with Rev. Herman Kuiper officiating. Interment was made in Valley View cemetery.
