Oscar Eugene ""Gene"" McCawley, 74, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012, in Vitas Hospice in Houston. Gene was born January 15, 1938, in Goose Creek, TX to Alvin Eugene ""Dick"" McCawley and Ethelyn Oleta Williams McCawley. He grew up in Mont Belvieu and stayed there until his marriage when he moved to Baytown and had resided there ever since. He was an avid NRA member, and loved motorcycles. First and foremost, though, he loved his family, all of whom he was very proud of.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a baby sister, Caroline Janelle McCawley; a grandson, Conner Ryan McCawley; and his cousin, Bobby Sample, who was more a brother than a cousin, and whom he missed every day. He is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Norma Hightower McCawley of Baytown; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Dwayne Eggerman of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Pam McCawley of Dayton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Betty McCawley of Dayton and Al and Susan McCawley of Mont Belvieu; sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Clyde Sims of Anahuac; grandchildren, Scott Badeaux and Tyler Eggerman, Morgan McCawley Broyles and husband, Jacob Broyles, Travis McCawley, Jacob McCawley, Grace McCawley, and Andrew McCawley; great granddaughter, Kailyn Broyles; other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
His family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Cloudt officiating. Burial will follow at the Williams-Barber Cemetery in Mont Belvieu.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Badeaux, Tyler Eggerman, Travis McCawley, Jacob McCawley, Dwayne Eggerman and Jacob Broyles. Honorary pallbearer will be Andrew McCawley.
